- [By WALLSTCHEATSHEET]
While Caterpillar has experienced several difficult quarters, the causes have been external rather than internalnamely, a depressed mining sector leading to inventory problems. By underselling demand for the rest of the year, Caterpillar is exchanging short-term sales weakness for an attractive inventory position in the future leading to sales growth beginning in 2014. Moreover, investors thinking about going long Caterpillar can use recent weakness to buy the stock at a more attractive level than before.
